You ask an interesting question... I wouldn't have thought about it until recently when a card (4 of Water from the Gaian Tarot deck) that I 'enter' frequently as an exercise presented me with the concept of 'emotional groundedness'. It wouldn't necessarily have been a meaning that would have resonated with me about this card but, upon further reflection, makes perfect sense. Four is a number of groundedness and stability and, of course, water is the realm of our feelings. I seems to belong together. It wasn't until I entered the card that this meaning presented itself. I suspect that this experience will repeat itself. How about anyone else? Has your experience entering the cards provided you with a deeper understanding or with additional/alternative interpretations?

As far as drifting into the cards when I read, this is a common experience when I read for myself. Not so common during client work, though.

Thank you for your question. I hope I answered it.

I'm curious to know how using the entering the card technique affects your relationship with the cards as they then appear in readings. Do you find that you learn deeper aspects of the cards this way or perhaps find yourself drifting into the card again when you read?

I have read your reading and want to say how accurate you were. It’s a wonderful thing about Tarot that helps to bring clarity to situations. You have given me much to ponder about on a personal level as well as a student walking her journey throught the cards. I was also surprised as well on how people view me, through the eyes of the cards. This really amazed me and urged me to ask people close to me if this is truly how they saw me! All answers were a resounding “YES”!
Thank you again for the reading and your brilliant feedback as well as the key components to ponder and study on as I move foward. This has certainly been a great expierence. I will definatly take you up on your offer of further study material once I have finished “The courtyard” lessons.
Blessed Be,

First of all, thank you for sharing your experience. I wish I had used the Tarot with my own children to tell them story. It might have eased the burden on my imagination :)
I might just suggest it to my daughter, who currently places many of her creative writing pieces on her blog. She may find it useful.

As far as introducing the courts into the story, I draw them first. As important as the theme, plot or setting of a story are, it requires characters. To describe the characteristics of the courts, for simplicity's sake, I begin with an elemental link that kind of borrows Susan Miller's planetary actors analogy. I draw a card and then, regardless of the naming system for the courts, I give the first level (page, child, princess, etc...) a child-like quality, the second a youth-like quality, the third a mother-like quality and the fourth a father-like quality. To recognize the suit of the card, I would 'wrap' the actor in their 'elemental robe'.

An example might help explain it better.
If I drew the Page of Cups as the main character of the story, I would first look at general 'child-like' qualities: young and immature, not yet independent, etc... I would then 'wrap' the actor in the water-like robe of cups. The character may then begin to take on the characteristics of an emotionally immature child whose prone to temper tantrums or she/he may provide love to those around them in an unconditional way. He/She may have a naive amount of trust for others or could be in the throws of a puppy love-like relationship. She/He might have soft water-like facial feature... and so on.

As a creative tool, there really are no rules other than having the card present to assist in the creative process.

Thanks for visiting. Hope to see you again.

Blessings,

Peter
